Lowthwaite's Bedrooms
Lowthwaite has four bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms with showers and good baths. The rooms have all been thoughtfully furnished, carefully decorated, and they are all different. We have given them names after the views from each of them.
Rooms
Matterdale Room
The Matterdale Room is a light first floor room with an airy feel and good views over Matterdale Valley. There is a spacious sitting area, and it is an extremely comfortable room for a couple or two friends. Matterdale and Helvellyn rooms are connected via a small, private vestibule and together they are ideal for a family or a group of friends. Infants are welcome, and there is plenty of space for a cot.
Helvellyn Room
The Helvellyn Room is the other large first floor room. From the comfortable sofa area, you can see Helvellyn (weather permitting, this is The Lake District!). This is a very distinctive room with plenty of space for two people, either a couple or two friends. It can also be used for a for a family of three (see picture of the enormous settee cum third bed with a proper matress) or for three friends.
Blencathra Room
The Blencathra Room is a very special room, with the characteristics of a suite. There is a downstairs sleeping area in the old tractor shed, and an upstairs sitting area and bathroom in the granary. It is perfect for either a couple or two friends.
Garden Room
The Garden Room is on the ground flour, but reached by steps, with a lovely, private, sheltered patio. It is a very cosy room with old beams, lots of atmosphere, and close-up views of an abundance of wildlife on the patio. It is ideal for a couple or two friends.
Toiletries
All bathrooms have locally made, natural toiletries from Pure Lakes.
You can try making your own soap or candles with them in Staveley.
Our Furniture
We love our wooden furniture, constructed by hand in Tanzania from old Dhows (Arabic sailing boats); they fit the old farmhouse very well.

Bathrooms
All our bathrooms are carefully designed with a long and deep bath, as well as a good shower. They are all individually shaped, decorated and tiled. Blencathra and Garden bathrooms have nice wooden floors salvaged from what used to be the living room floorboards in the old farmhouse.
Gardens, Patios and Fields
Helvellyn, Matterdale, and Blencathra rooms share a big terrace close to the fellside on several levels, with wooden chairs and tables, and a lovely trickling stream at the bottom. It's a very peaceful place to spend a some time with a book, enjoying a cup of tea and one of our homemade muffins. The Garden room has a private and very sheltered patio on the south side of the property.
Lowthwaite is set within 1.5 acres of grounds ....... please ask Jim or Tine where the children can explore, and where superb views can be had of the surrounding fells within a few minutes walk.
Children's Facilities
We have a cot, high chair(s) and special cutlery for small children. We recommend you bring wellingtons, since the best "toy" is often our little stream!
General Facilities
The following are available for all rooms: Television,DVD player, Hairdryer, Tea/Coffee making facilities, Use of garden and patio, Use of guidebooks and other books, Maps (for planning and laminated for walks), Drying room, and Fridge (in the Dining Room).
