The postman still gets here, though rather late in the day, so you can send us a letter to:

The main road network close to Matterdale is surprisingly good - the M6 is only 15 minutes away and both A66 and A592 are within 3 miles.
To find us from Junction 40 on the M6 is easy. Take A66 towards Keswick for 6.5 miles, then turn left opposite B5288 onto the Matterdale road. Head down into the valley for 1.25 miles and then turn left immediately after a big farm, signposted to "Thackthwaite and Dacre". Go uphill for 0.25 mile and then fork right signposted “Lowthwaite 1”. We are nearly one mile from this junction nestling in a hollow, the only house on the left side of this road, and the only remaining dwelling at Lowthwaite.
If you come from Keswick, just follow the description from A66, but turn right off A66 when you get to B5288. To find us from the main A592 Ullswater lakeshore road is nearly as easy. Take A5091 to Dockray village and continue for 1.0 mile before turning right at Matterdale church, signposted to Penruddock. Continue for 1.0 mile, ignoring the right turn to Ulcat Row, until reaching a T junction. Turn right and proceed up the hill for 0.25 mile until arriving at the left turn signposted "Lowthwaite 0.25". We are the first inhabited house that you pass on the right side of this road, and the only remaining dwelling at Lowthwaite.
If you choose to take another route, we recommend that you have a good physical map or use google maps, as the network of small lanes can be confusing.
If you like to use Sat Nav, the postcode is CA11 0LE. Be aware that this will bring you to Matterdale valley, but not to our house, since the postcode covers quite a big area. Most people without a physical or Google map end up by a house called Todgill, which is about one mile away. If that happens to you, please ring us.
Another alternative is to use what3words where our car park is primed.lavished.amounting .
Instead of driving here the train is a possibility, as Penrith has good connections from both the South and the North. A trip from London Euston is just over 3 hours, and it is certainly more relaxing than the motorway.
When arriving in Penrith you can get a taxi to here, or hire a car.
Eden Garage will bring a car to the station to meet you.
Practical Car Rental is less than 10 minutes walk from the station, so easy to get there and pick up the car.
We have storage for your bikes if you bring them, either by car, train or hire them. Arragons in Penrith provides hire of Electric bikes, which is an interesting option.
